Pet Insurance

Pet insurance is the perfect backup plan when the unexpected happens to your dog or cat. Think of pet insurance as medical insurance for your pet that covers veterinary bills for unexpected injuries and illnesses. We’re happy to recommend both Trupanion and Embrace Pet Insurance. Interested? Apply today by clicking either image below!

We have a testimonial from a patient that has had wonderful success with Trupanion Insurance that we’d like to share with you.

I am writing this testimonial on behalf of my veterinarians Dr Bibb and Dr Josling at El Gato Veterinary Hospital and the wonderful staff there. This will hopefully help others to learn the benefits of having pet insurance from your company. We got Maximus as a puppy after we lost our last dog to a heart condition (DCM) that we never knew she had during the Christmas holiday of 2011. After four days of treatment and over $6,000 spent, we lost our dog of only 8 years young. I remember every time I visited her in the specialty hospital not only worrying about her but also the bill that I knew was getting higher and higher and wondering how we were going to afford it while trying to make decisions based on that. So when we lost her and I was still getting that dreaded credit card bill and knowing all I had left of her was memories and the recurring bill that made me cry every month.

So when we got Maximus I started looking for insurance that had no restrictions on yearly spending or lifetime cap, and also covered genetic issues. Trupanion was the only company that stood out among the other insurances. I placed Maximus on it and was so happy to have peace of mind that if we ever needed it we would have help making sure I could treat whatever needed treating without having to worry and second guess about paying a vet bill.

Little did I know that help was going to be needed sooner than I thought. While playing in my neighbor’s yard my big lug of a puppy fell and got hurt. We crate rested him in hopes it was something minor but he was not improving. I brought him in and we did X-rays. Turned out he had ruptured his ACL, Maximus was taken to the same specialty clinic we had been in with our last dog and was getting set for surgery. It was amazing the feeling of relief I had knowing I had insurance on him and that I could make choices without worrying about a budget because I knew something would be covered.

I was not sure at the time just how great pet insurance was because we had not used it until then. Maximus had a TPLO surgery and did great, I gave them all of his insurance information and payed his bill of $6,200 not knowing how long it would be for reimbursement. I was shocked I had a check in my hand within 2 weeks for 90% reimbursement. Having that check made it so I could set my dog up for rehabilitation without fear of cost and shocked to find that it was covered at 90% as well.

Within the year my dog underwent 2 TPLO surgeries, full rehabilitation care, and hydrotherapy all covered by Trupanion’s wonderful team. I know without a shadow of a doubt that had I not gotten coverage for Maximus I would not have been able to take such great care of him. I would have been forced to make different choices. I am so very thankful that I was able to choose what was best for my dog without the worry of how I was going to have to cover the bills. So much so, that at the dog rescue that I help run Group Education to Protect and Defend Animals (GEPDA) we give every dog that is adopted a Trupanion flyer in their adoption package and tell them all about getting pet insurance.

Thank you for helping to keep our dogs and cats healthy and allowing us as guardians to make better choices without worrying about the cost of treatments.
